How do I get started in Amateur Radio? Well this is a many faceted answer. You can go to a class given by many amateur radio clubs in Oregon. The ARRL website lists some of them here.
You can do self study. There are many resources on the web. 2014-no-nonsense-tech-study-guide-v20 is a great study guide.
The 3rd option is to use one of the online practice test sites, this is simple memorization, when you can score 80+% on these tests you will be able to pass the official test.
Then you take a test from a test session. There are a number of them each month.
